“Fair for All? The Impact of the EU Deforestation Regulation on Peruvian Smallholder Farmers”

by Ciro Castro Pacheco, Beatriz Duke Vitienes, Alexandre Isch, Ayana Kanash, Noemi Rodrigues Nascimento

Description

Can efforts to save the Amazon rainforest actually harm the people who live there? Europe’s new deforestation law aims to make products like chocolate more sustainable but on the flip side, it could force Peruvian cocoa farmers into poverty. The livelihoods of the farmers are at stake while Europe attempts to go green. Join us as we explore the unintended consequences of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and the challenges of balancing global conservation goals with the needs of local communities, through the lens of SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities. Dr. Anke Kaulard, a leading sociologist, helps us unpack the paradoxes of market-driven policies. Tune in for an insightful conversation about finding equitable solutions for a more sustainable world!
